FIRST CLUBS

1905-1907 Szczawno Zdrój It's really a German golf (Bad Salzbrunn). When the region came back to Poland in 1945, the golf club was no longer active. The course was designed by Wiliam J. Rusack (related to the hotel in Saint-Andrew).
1910-1911 Głogłówek (Oberglogau) Private 9 holes (Oppersdorf Family). Designed or redesign by Cuthbert Butchart.
1923 Warszawa (Warsaw - Siekerki) "Warszawski Golf Club" designed by Jules Laroche.
1927 Wrocław (Breslau) "Breslau Golf Course" designed by Bernhard von Limburger
1931 Giszowiec (6 km from Katowice) "Pulaski Golf Club"
1932-1934 Julin (20 km from Łańcut) Private golf cours (Potocki Family)
1933 Poswin (15 km from Warsaw) "Polski Country Club" designed by Denis McIllroy.

There might have been a golf course in Gdańsk (Danzig) but no real evidence. Before World War II polish golfers had plans to build some others clubs in Poznań, Lwów, Zakopane.

We would like to thank Tomasz Zembrowski, who significantly contributed to this information.

GREAT PLAYERS

  • Prince Karol Radziwill was certainly the greatest amateur polish player before WW2.
